Sam Barks

About Me
My name is Sam Barks, and I am currently a student at Indiana University Indianapolis. I am studying at the Luddy School of Informatics Computing and Engineering, working to get my bachelor's degree in Media Arts and Science. I aspire to be a writer and/or producer in the video game industry. I hope to make the next dream, whether it's mine or another's, a reality! In the future, I'd love to find myself teaching the next great storytellers.
For me, every creation needs a story to create meaning. Without meaning, a creation fades away as fast as it was created. I take this ideal with me whenever I create or help create, always driving to make something that will be remembered for years to come.
My Story
I started out in Mooresville, IN. I was a black sheep, not fitting into the typical cliques that my hometown seemed to create. I really didn't know what I wanted to do. All I knew was that I didn't want to do anything that I didn't truly enjoy. I refused to do anything other than what I truly loved, which ultimately was making people happy. I felt true peace when I was making someone feel something, be it with a joke, a story, or a shoulder to cry on. Once I was out of high school, I decided to take on college in the hopes that I could find my calling in the academic setting.
I loved video games, something that was pretty uncommon in my family, so I decided to pursue that by going to Indiana University for a Media Arts & Science degree in Game Design & Development. It was here that I found my passion: telling stories! So I started doing a dual specialization in GDD as well as Digital Storytelling.
I still have a long way to go, but I am confident in my ability to tell amazing stories that will make audiences truly feel something great.
